Concrete Slab Cover Ideas?

So I am in charge of researching and getting quotes for a concrete slab cover. The concrete slab is about 50' x 100' and is contaminated with chemicals that can't get into the water. So to prevent water from getting onto the pad, like rain, a cover is needed. I wasn't sure where to begin with this as all my searching turns up with polyethylene sheets and not much else.

The cover needs to last about 10 years and should be cheap but durable enough to last for those 10 years. If anyone as ideas on what to look for, or ideas on how to better research this, I'd appreciate it.

Can you use a polyurethane or epoxy coating with a primer? Cleaning the surface may be an issue. In lieu of polyethylene which will not last, can you use an EPDM material?

Do you have to notify anyone of the contamination. Under relatively recent legislation, Engineers can be held criminally negligent, in Canada, for environmental issues.

@Dik, reporting the contamination isn't an issue but thanks for the concern. Cleaning is an issue, it's why the cover is what is going to be used. The cover is supposed to be on top the pad, kind of like a roof or like a large tent one might see at a family gathering where people can sit under. Obviously not exactly like that, but I think you get the idea.

I'll look into the EPDM though!

We have a Chemical Coatings Forum... if it were posted there, I'd have missed it... got it... EPDM is a material used for roofing... it's tough, nearly impervious, and relatively inexpensive and there are numerous roofing contractors in this area that can install it...

Pre-welded Reinforced HDPE membranes will work and are used for this application. Look into the Cover Up 240 (0.4mm thick)

In situations where contaminated soil must be protected from rain water to prevent spreading of the contamination, a plastic or rubber liner is usually used, and then this is covered with clean soil for ballast and protection of the liner from the elements. In your case, I suggest you to mound some gravel on the pad to avoid water pooling and then cover with a liner and more gravel.
