How do we design the concrete slab on grade? What is the procedure? I know the wire mesh is only for crack control, and is not designed as tension reinforcement.

I would appreciate your response.

Woven wire fabric can be used for tension reinforcement and for transverse temperature and shrinkage reinforcement. Merely design the correct area of wire per spacing of wire.

There's also a good reference and design guide published by the Cement and Concrete Association of Australia "Industrial Floors and Pavements". It's simple to understand and easy to follow.

Cheers!

Looks like there is not an easy way to design it. Typically, we provide 4" or 5" thick concrete slab on grade on typical residential and commercial construction (minimum soil bearing value of 1500 psf).
