I an looking at a conceptual design for a new energy recovery system and want to use the water coming off of a coal fired electric generating plant turbine steam condenser. Can anyone tell me a typical temperature or range of temperatures that one would find in the water coming off such a condensate condenser?

Thanks

You would be aware that the exhaust from a condensing turbine is saturated, so the temperature is a pure function of pressure. A typical design exhaust pressure is -80 kPaG, corresponding with 61 deg C.

If there was energy in the turbine condensate that was worth recovery, it would have been recovered -- in the turbine.

The temperature of typical condensing steam turbines is in the range of saturated temperature corresponding to 0.75 psia - 2.0 psia (i.e. 90F - 125F). As KiwiBob has pointed out, this is saturated steam, typically 10 - 20%moisture at the exhaust.

Please at least consider that somebody has looked into this before you.

Good luck.

Condenser operating pressure is fixed by the water temperature available for cooling. It is approximately equal to the ambient temperature of the region the power plant is located. In the condenser only the latent heat of the steam at the condenser pressure is removed and the water temperaure is increased by the corresponding amount.
Let us say the maximum ambient pressure of a region is 50 deg C.
Then the theoretical minimum condenser pressure is saturation pressure is 0.1235 bar. But in actual practice a temperature approx 20 deg is added to the maximum ambient temperaure.
Therefore condenser pressure = 0.3119 bar ( Corresponding to the 50deg+20deg saturation pressure).
Now Maximum condenser outlet water temperature is 70 deg.
Depending on the location of your power plant you can find the condenser water outlet temp. But keep it in mind that if you want to use that water for energy recovery only a small delta T (in this case 20 deg) only available for recovery.
