I am designing a 8 story condominium where the contractor would like to exhaust the bathrooms with several roof mounted exhaust fans and vertical duct risers. The fans will run 24hrs/day.

The building is in NJ and they follow 2000 International Mech Code.

My question relates to the use of dumping 100%OA into the hallway as source of make-up air for the bathrooms (50-75cfm) in each condo.

Does this method of make-up air violate section 601.2 "air movement in egress elements"?

ASHRAE 2003 HVAC applictions says interior public corridors in apartment buildings need positive ventilation with at least two air changes per hour. Conditioned supply
air is preferable. Some designs transfer air into the apartments through acoustically lined louvers to provide kitchen and toilet makeup air, if necessary. Supplying air to, instead of exhausting air from, corridors minimizes odor migration from apartments into corridors.
