Configurations could not be found?

We have created a company standard fastener library. The models used to construct this library contain design tables. When users insert the fasteners they get an error message which reads "The following component configuration could not be found. (configuration name) If the configuration was renamed the same configuration will be used, otherwise the last active configuration will be substituted in each instance". What would cause this? All configurations seem to work fine at part level, it's when inserted into assemblies. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is everyone mapped correctly to the network drive where your standard fastner library resides? Are you using the Toolbox Broswer?

It almost sounds to me like someone re-named the configurations. Check the name (configuration name) character for character against the actual Config names available in the model. Sometimes a user may go and delete the spaces, or change a "\" to a "/". Any subtle change will give this message.

When creating custom libraries with design tables, you'll need to customize the part files to protect them from other users by:

1) Write protect the design table part file
with a password. To this, open the design table in
Excel mode and go to Tools, Protection and select
Protect Sheet. Be sure to assign a password and
let the adminstrators know what password you used.

2) Make your dimensions in the part file "Read Only".
To do this, select your dimension and RMB click,
Properties and check the box as read-only. Alot of
end users do not know about this check box and stumps
them when they try to modify the dimension.

It's really a pain in the As# to do this, but it seems to help from other users modifing your work. If your like me, you put a lot of hours into these part files.

Hello all,

To answer a few questions, the configurations do exists and we are able to re-select them. We are all mapped to the same location, and are not using Toolbox for fasteners. No configuration names can be changed as these libraries are read only. What happens is a fastener is inserted using the Feature Pallet, a configuration is then selected. Everything is fine, but when this assembly is inserted into an upper level assembly or an upper level assembly which references this assembly is opened, SolidWorks will then prompt that it cannot find this configuration. This may be a silly comment but if that location is on the C: drive, you are all looking at your own C: drives and not one common location, such as a drive on a server.

I have been going through the same problem on my machine as well. Upper level assemblies unable to locate configurations.

Interesting note: I opened the part that assembly could not find the configuration before the assembly and it found the configurations.
