We have a hole that had to be excavated ~20 to 30 feet below the groundwater table and we are in the process of backfilling hole with a sandy material. The hole had to be dewatered to perform these activities. Will the confining pressure of the soil (~90 feet (~60 feet higher than ground water table) of fill placed at 95% compaction of the modified proctor) go up or down when the ground water table is allowed to return to it's state prior to dewatering?
