Connecting a Generator to an engine

Hello and thanks in advance,

I am trying to determine where are some internet sites for helping me determine:

1) How to correctly pick the SAE housing that's needed to mate a generator end to an internal combustion engine..

2) How to best choose the coupling that mates the engine to the generator end

Any thoughts?

IC engines are typically available with no more than two different flywheel housings.
Single- bearing generators are available with a selection of bellhousings complementary to the range of flywheel housings found on engines of appropriate size.
Single- bearing generators bolt right up to a standard SAE flywheel by means of a flexplate (again, engines are available with a small selection of flywheels, and generators with a larger selection of complementary flexplates.)

You only need to worry about a coupling if you buy a two-bearing generator, which is not a good choice unless you want the engine and generator separated axially, e.g. by a driveshaft.

Generator catalogs usually have the bellhousing/ flexplate details within. For the engine data, you may need to get information from an application engineer; contacting one is a good idea for other reasons, too.
