Hi,
This is a relatively simple - but pivotal - query. How do we (or don't we) take into account the presence of longitudinal welds in continuous ERW members, like rectangular hollow section, circular hollow section, etc?
What about in fatigue applications (as my specific case is)?
I don't ever see the welds in structural members get separately assessed - are they typically ignored on account of "Adequate quality control and NDT"? Or do people just avoid having them in highly stressed locations or similar?
Is there any guidance on this from official standards? I am in Australia but can be guided by other countries codes and standards.
Thanks!
