Constrain dimensions within a range so new parts can be customized.

Hello all,

I want to take a part that I have already built and fix certain radii, hole diameter, hole distance from the edge.... and I want to take other dimensions, mainly the widths and heights, and confine them to different ranges or at very least set them to a minimum.

The idea is to take a basic part that meets the minimum strength requirements and has certain dims locked but others left "free to move" so I can customize each to their particular application.

I know I could copy the part each time, go into the sketch, remove the the retraints, and move everything around, but I was hoping to stream line this for others.

Take a look at DriveWorksXpress under the 'Tools' dropdown menu. It'll let you do just what you want to do.

You can add sensors on the dimensions. They will not keep someone from using too small/big a number, but they will raise an alert when they do.

Dependent upon how the sketch is created and constrained, you may be able to use the Fix option to lock the size and position of the required geometry in place. Dimensions controlling that geometry would have to be either deleted, or set to Driven.
