Hello

I've created two overlapping plates and inseretd a solid cylinder to model a rivet connection. When i mesh the plates with a structural solid element it explains that the model is unconstrained. I've done some reading of TARGE and CONTA elements but cannot see how to implement them into my model to give an accurate analysis.

I would be most greatful if anyone could help.
Thank you
Alan

Hello,

So you are having three parts in contact, wright? If you are not defining any contact elements, the parts will move free. So you must define contact elements. I would suggest you read carefully the ansys help on contact technology.

For a 3D Model you will have to define TARGE170 elements. The contact elements are not so simply to chose. It depends on the type of the underlying elements and on their shape function (linear, quadratic). For a 3D surface-surface contact with linear shape functions (solid45) you will need Conata173 elements for example.

A contact pair (TARGET-CONTACT) must be identified by the same set of real constants.

You can mesh with contact elements very simple by ESURF.

Hope it helps!

other way to represent contact by using
modeling >creat> contact pair
when you choose it must give cotact surface and target then continuou very very simple
