CONTACT CONTROLS, AUTOMATIC TOLERANCES 1

Hello,
Can somebody explain to me how exactly does the option CONTACT CONTROLS, AUTOMATIC TOLERANCES work in a contact problem?
I'm running a contact analysis and if I don't add this option it won't converge... so can I rely on the results with the automatic tolerances parameter enabled?

It's explained in the user manual. But you have to use an old manual, since that option was removed some years ago.
