Hi all,

I am simulating an impact with damage for composite material and I am just wondering what is the appropriate contact definition for the impact simulation. Currently, I am using a general contact algorithm.

Also, I am just wondering do I need to define contact between impactor and plate (composite) and another definition for the damage between the layers ?

I would appreciate sharing you knowledge with me. Thanks in advance.

Matt

I guess that you use explicit solver, right ? General contact algorithm is very good, it's often the best choice. With this type of contact enabled usually you don't need any additional contact definitions. With GC self contact can be handled but only exterior element faces are included by default. This means that if internal faces are exposed due to element deletion they won't experience contact. To include these internal faces you must define and add them separately:

Thank you FEA way! Appreciate your comments. I will go over the link!

Other comments will be appreciated too :)
