Contact property with damage in Explicit

I am trying to model a surface-to-surface contact in Abaqus/Explicit. When I add a contact property with "Cohesive Behaviour" and "Damage" defined, then I get the following error message: "The interaction "name" references a contact property (name) that contains the damage or cohesive behaviour option. These options cannot be specified for this type of interactions"

I need to have damage defined, as I want to model fracture of the surface-to-surface contact. Does this mean I have to switch to cohesive elements to make this work in Explicit? Or is there a work-around?

The manual clearly says what contact setting are supported with that behavior. I recommend you read that.

User Manual 37.1.10 Surface-based cohesive behavior

Dear Mustaine3,

I have been able to implemented it, but it was not clear at all based on that section of the manual. It only mentions that it is implemented in the "General contact framework", but it leaves you to figure out how to implement this specifically. However, knowing this was enough to look more specifically on forums, and I finally found the solution. Apparently, you need to create a dummy interaction property for the global model (without damage or cohesive behaviour), and then you can apply the relevant interaction property (with damage and cohesive behaviour defined) to the relevant parts of the model.

Thanks for putting me on the right track though!
