Dear all,
Do you know how can I have continuity in stress or displacement results between parts which are tied together after simulation in Abaqus. I would like to have the same results like merging different parts, partitioning and defining different material properties for it with this difference that I have fine and coarse mesh in interface.
I have used "Tie constraint" and "Tie contact”, but in both cases after simulation there is not continuity between stress and displacement results.

Any idea is appreciated.

Best regards

Victor

If you tie the surfaces together then you should see continuity in displacement and the stress normal to the surfaces, though this depends on the interpolation of displacement between the the two surfaces. Check the contours/values of displacement at the surfaces.

Dear Corus,
Thanks for your comment.
I was expecting the same, but it is not.
Please have a look to attached file, then you can see what I mean.
One of them is for node to surface tie constraint and the other one is for surface to surface tie constraint stresses!!

Any idea is appreciated.
Best regards
Victor

I've no idea what the pictures show as there is no description on them as to whether it's contours of displacement or stress or whatever. Clearly there is no continuity in the contours, whatever it is they show.

Dear Corus,
These are misses stresses. The values are not important. My goal was just to show that if I use node to surface, the nodes are connected but there is a surface bending between the two nodes. In another words there are gaps between two surfaces at the end of simulation.
And if I use the surface to surface tie, there is a delamination between two parts which I did not expect to happen!

If you have any idea to avoid this gap between parts after simulation please let me know.

Thanks
Best regards
Victor
