Beyond Preferences, Visualization/Background in NX7, are there any additional drop downs not completely buried in the program that a User can use to set contrast and color for dropdowns, menus, and overall look and feel - without having to touch Windows Environment Variables?

Dealing with a situation where some of the subtle color shades (light grey and white - some color palette choices in the blue/green spectrum) are just not working for some users.

Nope, other than what you find at...

Preferences -> User Interface -> Layout

...that's all that NX provides control of. If you wish to tinker further, you're at the mercy of the Windows settings.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Just in case this option is unknown, there is an option of setting a personal color palette override for the NX objects, ( the curves /solids etc), in case somebody has problems with the selected colors.
Set ugii_override_cdf= \ directory \my-colors.cdf where
"my-colors.cdf" is a color palette that the user setup himself under preferences - color palette - Save cdf as...
The nice thing is that the partfile will not be affected, it will only be displayed in different colors on this particular users screen. ( The preview will show the colors from the different setup but the model will revert back to the original colors on the "next screen".)

Thanks John - now what about allowing a user to have the title of command underneath the icon - as is the days of UG 11/16ish timeframe?

If you wish to see text below the icons, go to...

Tools -> Customize -> Toolbars

...select the toolbar of interest and then toggle ON the 'Text Below Icon' option found on the right side of the dialog.
