I am new to Control Ball Valves. Which book is recommended for me as a beginner? Also please help me with the following:

1. Some documents that can serve as guidelines to size the valves?
2. What approach to be followed while sizing a valve?
3. What are the frequent problems associated with Control valves and how they can be addressed?

Shirly.

One of the main things you will need is to develop the various flow conditions and fluid properties for your valve.

Min flow & delta P
Normal flow & delta P
Maximum flow & delta P

You will need to standardize on units of measurement for the various sizing methods:

SCFM or Nm3/h for gases
GPM or m3 for liquids
lb/h or kg/h for steam

Liquids and gases can also be expressed in terms of mass flow but the volumetric basis is the more common method.

You may to consult your process engineer to develop the fluid properties needed. These may be:

GAS: Temp, pressure, MW or Gas SG, viscosity, compressibility
Liquids: Temp, pressure, liquid SG, viscosity

You need to choose materials of construction, flange ratings based on maximum shut-off pressure, etc.

The Emerson book as good as any.

Good luck!
