Conventional Blinds or Line Blind Valves?

Greetings,

I would like to know how the conventional blinds fair against Line Blind Valves. Even though Line Blind Valves provide the benefit of very quick blinding/deblinding and minimal requirement of manpower, yet I find people preferring Conventional Blinds (Spectacle Blinds) for the intended purpose - which is time consuming (hours for larger line sizes), requires multiple personals for installation and the cost associated with such lengthy downtime would obviously be considerable.

Is it because the Line Blind Valve is mechanically more complex that it is overlooked? With all the extra parts (Cams - see Schuf Line Blind Valve), does a Line Blind Valve pose threats of leak?

Thanks and Regards,
Arshad.

Arshad,
As long as you consider the nature of the commodity, the maximum operating pressure, and the maximum operating temperature these should work just fine.
Please note you will still need both an upstream and a downstream block valve at each of these Schuf Line Blind Valves.
You might consider a discussion with the Manufacturer (Schuf)

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

IMO, the use of blind types, either blind plate or blind valve may be depended on the Operation experience. I think the issues of the o-ring material or the bolting practice may be the concern for the O&M. I did replace some quick (3-bolts) blinds with the conventional blinds in the process lines in the past.
