I am using conventional method to design a water pump impeller. But my blade profile is too long. I want to shorten the length of the blade by keeping the inlet and exit angles same. What are parameters I can play with to reduce the length.

A conventional pump impeller has an arc blade design. Shortening the length of the blade while maintaining the inlet and outlet angles is a matter of adjusting the arc radius.

Establish the length of the blade you want/need (straight from tip to connection) and then adjust the arc radius to match the inlet/outlet angles of the original design.

A few things to consider:
- Increasing the arc radius will increase the flow rate but descrease efficiency. It's a give and take relationship, in which you'll need to find the optimal setting.
- The profile of your blade doesn't have to be a perfect arc. You can always favor a sharper angle to the inside or outside.
- Small adjustments make lots of difference.

Hope this helps!
