Hi

Is there any way to see the model convergence ?

Ansys displays a graphic during the model process that shows the process convergence. I can see when my model is starting to converge.

Does Abaqus do this ?

Thanks

Abaqus doesn't produce a graphic like you mentioned but you can monitor convergence by checking the .sta and .msg files. If you submit your jobs in CAE you can also right click on the job in the model tree and select "monitor". You can read more about this in the documentation:

Abaqus CAE User's Guide: 19.2.6 Monitoring the progress of an analysis job

Thank you very much.

But is there any way to check on the convergence while the job is running ? Just to see if going well or not ? Ansys do this in a graphic way while the job is running and i can see if my model is converging or not.

Is this related to the number of increments in step module ?

Thanks

You can look in the .sta (file) file. It will tell you what step the analysis is at, how far it is through the step, the current increment size, when the solver had to cut back the increment size etc. You can use this information to figure out if your analysis is running well and where you might have problems. The .msg file contains more detailed information about contact/force/moment/displacement convergence and can be useful for identify the region(s) in your model causing convergence issues.

You can also check the .dat file for warning messages that arise during pre-processing your model.

Thanks,

It´s supossed the sta file be generated during the running job ? While i´m running the job i check my files folder and no sta file there. I just found sta files in already completed jobs models.

If your analysis encounters a problem during pre-processing, no .sta file will be generated. You should check the .log file to see if your analysis is running/completed/terminated. If it terminated immediately, it's likely that the pre-processor encountered an error - you can check this in the .dat file.

If you launch your analysis in CAE, right click on the job in the model tree and select 'monitor'. The job monitor window will tell you if the analysis is running or if it has terminated/completed and you can access the .log, .dat, .sta and .msg output from the monitor window.

Thank you, for your answers. I very new using abaqus and your help is being precious.

One more thing, i have a complex model, with 756 Mb Cae file.

Strange thing happened, i opened this file and i just modified one value (1KN Load to 1.1 KN Load), i went to assembly and i did Regenerate. Then i save the change. The cae file went to 1.65 Gb. This file has no job associated yet, just the inputs. Why does this happen ?

This was the only change, no geometry changes, no nothing, just 0.1 KN more !

Thanks

When you submit a job from A/CAE, you can use the monitor option in the Job module to view a live version of the .sta.
But as mentioned, the .sta is only generated, when no errors occur while processing your model definitions.
