I keep getting a failure error when trying to convert parts from metric to inches. My input is this:

ug_convert_part -in c:temp\123456.geo_fin001.001999.prt

Any sugestions? Also, after installing NX5, the Convert Part program I had doesn't work anymore.

Not sure if you copy/pasted what you input, but you're missing a backslash after C:. If that's not causing the problem, make sure you have permissions to overwrite the file, otherwise make it copy the file elsewhere to be sure. Then again, if you have NO write permissions on C drive, you're wasting your time trying to write to it. Permissions suck and cause many headaches if you're not careful.

Not sure what you mean by the convert part program you had...if you install NX5, it's there. If you're referring to something you scripted to make the conversion simpler, then the script is probably pointing to a location for the ug_convert_part.exe that no longer exists. That is, the old version of NX might have been uninstalled. Your script will need to be updated to show the new location of ug_convert_part.exe (or whatever the executable is named).

I retried it as you wrote. However, it still failed. I do have write permission into that directory. The program I was talking about was one a downloaded a couple years back. It was from But the site is no longer.

Can't help you with the convert program you got from Steve Vickers' site. It may just not support NX5 for some reason. Typically, programs like that need to be revised for new versions of NX.

Not sure what to tell you about ug_convert not working. I'd call GTAC if it were me. Then you could send them the file and see what they say.

Have you opened the file in NX5 and saved it then tried the conversion?

Just a thought, about the filename you're using as it is familiar to me as an exported file from teamcenter. I expect you will attempt to work in native, but I doubt you will be able to reload the converted file into teamcenter if that is your goal. Expect to need some help from your teamcenter administrator if that is your goal and if you're not already abreast of the issues involved.

As for the conversion program itself perhaps it isn't compatible with NX-5 check with whoever supplied it, and try uninstalling and reinstalling it after your have installed NX-5, (may solve any issues with links to installed files, directories, registry etc). Otherwise you could go back to the utility that is shipped with UG-NX which would be my preferred method.

We don't use teamcenter. We did by it but I think it was too complicated for our IT department to setup or they didn't want to be bothered. Who knows. The Vickers program has a nice GUI, I'm not big on using line commands anymore. I think it's because I have NX3 and NX5 both installed and there is a conflict with the environment variables. I will see if I can get my IT department to fix it but I'm not gonna hold my breath.
