Convert 3D DWFx File to 2D CAD

I need a way to convert a 3D DWFx file that was generated in Revit into an 2D CAD file (DWG etc.). I do not have access to the original Revit file. We are working on a project where the engineer is supplying us 3D DWFx files of the various mechanical systems in a building and I need to generate 2D installation drawings of the various ducts and pipes using these 3D models. Is there any way to take the 3D model and generate the 2D elevation and 2D plan view that I can import into 2D CAD package (Autocad etc.)?

HAve you asked Autodesk, seeing as both programs are theirs? But, I don't see how that's fundamentally even possible. You need to open the 3D file in a 3D program and then export the 2D views

Why can't you have the ME generate the 2D views you need?
