hi
need some ideas of how to "simple" convert temperature into speech. have been advised to turn temperature into digital word and into speech. any suggestion of the low cost available chip that is relatively easy to program to be used to convert into speech.i have been looking at the TI MSP50C601 mixed signal procesor but have no previous knowledge in using that chip.
thanx!

For a few pieces and development the EPROM version, for mass-production the ROM version. I don't think it is a good choice for small scale production. (EPROM limited quantity,
ROM = $$$ )

Temp. sensors typically cca. 1 C accurate -- can calibrate
using cheap serial PROM or analog adjustment.

Temp sensors are slow -- could use dual slope ADC mostly in software or cheap serial ADC.

You can pretty much use any micro, depending on the temperature range you want to measure, you would have to decide on what sensor you want to use, I have used the dallas DS1821 with great success, with a 89C2051 and PIC devices, for the speech part you could hook up an ISD device (something like a ISD4002-240S) which you can record multiple messages which are addressable, then string them together to make a sentence.

Basically once you have each digit of the temperature you can address the ISD chip to output the audio.
