I am currently using UG V.18 for all my mechanical modeling but i need to render some animations and don't really like UG's animation techniques. I currently use newtek's lightwave program for any character modeling and animation and thought it would be superb if i could somehow import a Unigraphics file into lightwave.

Does anyone out there know of anyway in which i could perform such a conversion?

Any help very much appreciated

If you have the proper license (Advanced Designer bundle will do), UG will export STEP, IGES, Parasolid and STL (the main solids translators). What you need to know is if Lightwave will IMPORT any of those formats.

This more of a "can Lightwave do it" question versus "can UG do it".

there are parasolid converters for light wave but with out these you are stuck with a dxf or stl, which create heavy files in light wave.
We use rhino to convert most of our parasolids.

The best way for me to translate UG file to an other rendering software is to use VRML format (as you can set the accuracy of the model you want to read).

I worked fine with 3D max for example.

But the new NX3 provides configurations for assembly and I've heard that it helps to animate products (a demo about a LEGO caracter seems great to show that)
