We have a job in Solidworks (English) that needs to be converted into Solidworks (Brazilian Portuguese). Does anyone know if there is a way we can convert it within the Solidworks we have? or if it's possible to maybe load a Brazilian Portuguese version of Solidworks onto one of our tubes and open/save all of the files in there?

Our last resort will be to print all of the drw files out and send them to a translator to mark up, then have our SWX people type in the new notes, if that's possible.

Thanks

I'm not certain, but I think you would need a Portuguese version of your OS for your in-house conversion to work. I wouldn't want to bet on this being an automatic conversion, either. Who knows what any text on the drawings would end up as?

We tried it with Chinese. Will not work. There is a Chinese enigineer fluent in English that translates all dwgs manually. I know when during installation of SW you can pick a language. We tried it different ways including installing the languages in Windows, no go.

Thanks for the info. I think we are heading for a manual translation as well.

ctopher,
Once your Chinese engineer manually translates the drawings, do you update your Solidworks files with these translations? or are the hard copy, manually translated drawings used?

Unfortunately, they keep their translated dwgs. I just recently quit the company. When the main dwgs are revised, I assume the Chinese version probably is not. Having both versions IMO is not correct. If it were up to me, the same dwg would have both languages on it. It would be the same as having mm/in on the dims.

So when you say that your Chinese engineer 'manually' translated the drawings, are you saying that he opens the file in Solidworks and edits the solidworks file? or does he mark-up printed drawings by hand?

I'm just wondering if it is feasible that we send out printed drawings to be translated/marked up by hand, then have someone here replace the english on our solidworks files with the translation from the hard-copy mark-ups.

He makes a copy of the SW dwg then changes the font to Chinese on the dwg.

How does he change the font to chinese? I went under tools/options/doc properties and looked at the fonts and that wasn't an option. Is it part of the initial install?

I don't know. I tried asking several people over. Could never get an answer. I was told that's what he was doing. There must be a 3rd party software/text translator he uses.
