Hello all,

I have a refrigerant recovery tank with an old manual that gives the maximum amount of pounds of R-500 and R-22 the tank can hold at one time. We are currently using R-134a and I need to find out the maximum allowable pounds of R-134a I can recover in the storage tank. Anyone know of a formula?

To make the convertion, I would use the Mollier diagram of each refrigerant. At the temperature and pressure of interest, I would use the intrinsic property of specific volume at a quality value of let's 5% of each refrigerant within the tank. Mollier diagrams are available on the internet or you should be able to get them from the refrigerant distributors or manufacturers.

You want to store R-134A in a vessel that used to house R-22? correct?
R-134a operates at a higher pressure than R-22
Is your existing vessel capable of handling the new operating pressure?
Who will sign and seal the documents for that conversion? you?

With different pressure, I'd throw the old, get a new one, the liability is not worth the dime saved.
