Hey, I have a large step file which was made with UG which I have to bring into solidworks. However when I bring it into SW it comes in as surfaces and imported bodies in a single part file. I would like this to come in as an assembly with individual part files, any ideas on how I can do this ?

Thanks in advance,

-James

Sounds like an issue during export from UG, not an issue with the import into SWX.

Try re-exporting the file from UG, checking the export options so that it exports an assembly.

STEP translation can be dicey w.r.t. recognizing assembly components. Also, it's possible that the UG file was not modelled as an assembly.

The single best route from UG to SW is via parasolid. Perhaps your source can retranslate for you.

SW does a decent job reading UG directly, but you're left with a lot of clutter in the form of suppressed solids that were used to generate features.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'm going to try to get the files in parasolid and then translate them.

Thanks again,
