Hey all, I had a doubt, is there any reason behind coping/cutting a steel angle ledge at veneer wall bearing and one more VSL hole in mid-span? Drop a line, please!

My guesses:

The notch at bearing is to make sure the lintel is pulled well behind the face of brick and a thick enough bed joint of mortar can be placed in that space. It's pretty common to get mortar spalling there because it's so thin.

The slotted hole is there so they can fasten it to the backup framing. It's slotted so they are probably hoping that it won't load the framing, but they want to resist twisting in the angle and the added deflection it could cause.

I'm used to seeing the vertical slot provided to allow field adjustment of the relief angle elevation, assuming this is a relief angle. If it's a loose lintel then the slot is likely for the reason phamENG mentioned.

I'm making a thing: (It's no Kootware and it will probably break but it's alive!)

Thank you for the info. Mate

Thanks in advance!!
