Hi

I need to know if it´s exist any formula to calculate the evolution of the hardness of copper with the effort

I have a washer in copper who will be torqued at 46N.m
The hardess is 35HB and I need to know what should be the hardness after giving the torque (50HB ?, 70HB?)

I assume the washer is compressed between a screw and another rigid solid? If so, can you provide the dimensions and materials (plus coatings) of these other parts? If so, an estimate for strain can be developed, which could lead to an estimate for hardness. However, it won't be very precise. If you need precision, you should conduct testing of actual parts.

Cory

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.

There are good starin hardening curves fro Cu published, but like Corey said you will need to know the strain.
Why does this matter to you? It will turn out whatever it turns out.
