Does anyone know what the maximum temperature is for copper bus??

We have some bus here that looks like it could achieve 200 degC during a short circuit. I am pretty sure the devices hanging off the bus are not good for more than 100 degc.

However, a co-worker said he remembers some bus off a transformer running at 300 degc? This seems extreme... ya think?

An oft-quoted ‘emergency’ temperature limit for insulated copper cables is 250°C in short-circuit calculations. I don’t know the origin of that figure—perhaps it is a judgment call where occasional excursion will not produce significant physical or electrical degradation.

Suggestion: It depends on a bus application. Reference: IEEE Std 141-1993 Red Book Chapter 13 Busways
