I work for one project office. We have some similar prjects. Often we need to take some project, make changes on them and make a new projekt with another name of them. Usually we do that we make a new from of product, put in all it's parts, rename it and save as in new folder. Later we must connect broken links an it takes lots of time. We try in windows explorer just copy and paste catia files in new folder, but when I open product, catia opens only product from new folder, all parts are old from old folder. I read some of catia uuid numbers. Is this issue becouse of this unique UUID numbers?

Thanks! I understood how catia search order works. Will i have a problem with UUID numbers. Copy and paste method keeps same UUID numbers. I will rename parts and two different project will have different names but same UUIDS numbers.

I don't think keeping same UUID is a good ideea...check also maybe will help you to understand more and see other techniques.

You can use also new from for all your CATProduct components from the very beginning and also Save management and Apply Pattern, the only problem is to rename instances (and this can be done with a macro, you can find it here in the forum).

In this way you can avoid a lot of unnecessary work.

I would use save management and there rename them or if a prefix is good enough and you want to move all data try using the "DMU Data Flow/Save as Frozen" function in DMU navigator (available from the Tools drop down menu)

Would a good way to solve this type of problem be to open original file, go to save management, use 'save as' on topmost assembly (using different folder) and use 'propagate directory' before saving the whole lot? I think the documents associated with this assembly will be saved to the same folder as chosen in 'save as' and all contextual links established/preserved...
