Copy Geom & Cuts

I've done a copy geom from a casting model to a final machining model. Now I want to create my final finish cuts but the cuts option is greyed out. I've tried toggling the dependency between both dependent and independent but the cut option is still not available. Any suggestions or explanations?

Use merge option in assembly mode and not copy geom.

Create a machining part (only 3 datums and/or coord sys)

Create a dummy assembly and assemble the casting and then the machining part. Use merge option from advanced utils (under component menu) and transfer the geometry from the casting to your machining part.

Open the machining part and save it. You don't need to save the assemly.

Now, in your machining part you can create your final approach.

Every time you change the casting, the machining part will reflect these changes.
