After I save my settings using the Copy Settings Wizard, I can’t restore them. Everything is grayed out including the Next button. I’ve figured out a way around it by changing the file extension to .reg and updating my registry manually. Has anyone come across this problem and figured out the cause? I’m using SW 2010 Sp4 on Windows 7. I had the problem with SW2009 as well.
Thanks.

Sounds like a permissions problem.

Does the same happen if you log in under another user profile with full admin rights?

I’m supposed to have full administrative rights on my box. But just to be sure I just had our IT guy come and login with all administrative rights for my computer as well as the network. Under his login I was able to Restore, but the only option available was System Options. Keyboard Shortcuts, Menu Customization and Toolbar Customization were all grayed out. But the Next button was available. The trouble seems to happen when the settings file is being created. If I go to another computer and try to restore it, I get the same grayed out stuff.

CorBlimeyLimey,
Sorry, I didn’t explain it correctly. When I created the Settings file under the IT login, the System Options was the only item not grayed out when I restored the file. Under my own login, everything was grayed out.

You got me thinking about permissions. I Googled registry permissions and found something interesting. You can set who has permission to edit registry keys. I’m shown to have full control under permissions. For some reason there is a RESTRICTED user listed as well. That user has read only permission. I changed them to full control, just to see what would happen. The save and restore Setting works just fine now. I will have to talk to my IT guy in the morning and find out what the restricted user is.

Thanks for your help. You got me moving in the right direction.
