Are you in a draft file?

if so then...
- pick character map button from text flyout
- The arial character set contains a diameter symbol you can paste to clipboard
- close character map dialog
- pick text button, pick location point and ctrl-v (paste)
- your diameter symbol should appear. If its not the size you want then select text, Edit menu, properties, paragraph tab and font size.

Now I see I can copy only 'Central Europe' characters (no diameter of course). When I choose Symbol(font) selection Unicode is inactive...
