I am in the process of loading SW2006 on one of our spare computers to test everthing out before we install on the rest of our computers. The install was fine but I am having a problem with the Copy Settings Wizard. When I use the Copy Settings Wizard to copy our standard settings, system options, etc. from 2005.sldreg, the new install is not recognizing any of those settings. I go through the wizard process and everthing acts as if the settings were copied over but when SW2006 is started up, none of those settings were brought over. I am trying to use the sldreg file that was created for our 2005 installation. Is this possible or do I need to create a brand new sldreg file in 2006? Some of our users modified our base profile to customize to their liking. Would really like to copy over their settings without having to re-create the personal hotkeys & toolbars/buttons for each one.

Thanks

That happened on our 3 installs here also. It really makes me mad because I reported the issue during beta testing and it obviously was never fixed.

Migrating to 2006 using the copy wizard works perfectly for me. Saved me a lot of time.

Out of curiosity. ..

Of those who are having problems with this feature, do you have installations in specific directories--such as Programs/SolidWorks2005/ or is it the default?

It would be interesting to see if this is a flaw in where a directory is "expected" to be for SolidWorks, regarding the registry setting.

Reality is no respecter of good intentions.

1) Change the file to a *.reg file
2) OPen it in Notepad
3) make a global change to change Solidworks 2005 to Solidworks 2006
4) Double click the Reg file and install it into the registry.

That should work fine... I have done many of times, since my Copy settings Wizrad will not restore my settings. It doens't bother me none. There is always a way around I like trying to find it.

Scott,

That worked great. Thanks for the tip.

I always install to a folder I name with the software version (ex SolidWorks 2006). I'll remember that one for SW 2007 Scott, thanks for the tip.

for that one Scott.

That's a good one for the FAQ section too.

I had installed into a defalt folder and the copy reg did not work for me either. I guess it is not folder spacific

I have SW installed on the server with settings and everyone updated from the adminImage. Then do the copy options as needed, send to them as email, they dbl-click on file, it updates their settings.
