Copyright-free photography

Many of us land in maketing and are faced with the problem of obtaining copyright-free photography for use in internal presentations or even external presentations. While google is pretty good, there are other sources, but most of them cost money. Does any one have a few tips where I can find such images?

related to anything specific - a specific field of engineering?

Oil & gas photos can often be obtained from the major company sites. They will usually retain copyrigth - but use of pictures (with reference) is free.
