We have a current project where the contractor cored holes through an existing masonry wall without locating the rebar first. As such when they cored the wall they also cut one vertical bar in each core hole. Now we need to fix the wall. What are cost effective procedures to repair this?

I would first re-analyze and check the wall to see if the one bar lost actually does create a non-code compliant wall. The wall still may be able to resist the required design forces with the loss.

Do this first prior to spending money on fixes.

Typically you'd want to pin a vertical beam-column shape to one side of the wall to provide supplemental stiffness and strength for out-of-plane loads.

Other methods include knocking out the face shell on one side of the wall on either side of the cored hole. This exposes the two adjacent vertical cells to allow insertion of a new vertical bar. Form the face and fill with grout.

Have the contractor drop rebar thru the ungrouted cores adjacent to locations where ever existing reinforcement has been compromised. Obviously all cores with new rebar will have to be grouted solid. Good luck!
