EXPENSIVE SILICON STEELS ARE USED IN SMALL TRANSFORMERS (UPTO 500VA FOR UPS)WITH NO LOAD LOSS GOING UPTO 12WATTS.(M6,50RM600 ANNEALED/UN ANNEALED ETC)
ONLY GRADES OF STEEL IS CHANGED TO GET THE REQUIRED CORE LOSS .IS THERE ANY OTHER ONGOING IN EXPENSIVE DESIGN SOLUTION TO MINIMIZE THE NO LOAD CORE LOSS IN SUCH TRANFORMERS.

Hi core loss comes from 2 main sources. Eddy current and hysteresis, you can reduce it by, narrow hysteresis loop material, thinner laminations, reduced frequency, lower flux sweep.
