Corner padstone

Hi

I have a beam landing on the corner of a continuous masonry wall, if a corner padstone is used is it reasonable to design the bearing pressure under the padstone as if it was a straight padstone centrally loaded?
the design codes do not consider this case and i am wondering about accounting for the eccentricity?

I don't think compressive stress can be expected to fan out as it would when situated in a continuous wall. Eccentricity would tend to increase bearing pressure at the corner.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, for running bond, I've always treated it that way, except if there is a 'joint'.

The following is excerpt from BS 5628 ..

If the beam is supported on both walls with square bearing area , you may design as if it was a straight padstone centrally loaded and the load would be shared equal by both walls ..

However, ( in most cases , ) the lintel beam extends towards one of the walls. It is assumed that the load is distributed with 45 degr. starting from the both sides of the beam . It will be reasonable to distribute th load acc. to bearing length vs width .
