Corrosion Due to HCl

We are carrying out absorption of Phosgene and HCl in Ortho-Di-chloro benzene (ODCB) - solvent). ODCB contains about 200 ppm of moisture. We are facing severe corrosion problem in our Absorption column. Column is tray tower having 30 nos. of valve trays. MOC of column shell is CS while that of tray and valve is made up of SS-316.
Please suggest suitable material of cosnt. for Column and suggest remedial measures.

A few years back, we did a project for replacement of the distillation columns at PPG Chemical in Natrium WV. Ortho and di-chlorobenze is the product of the this process. The "cardinal operations rule" was to keep water out of the chemical process or the carbon steel would be eaten away rapidly. I don't believe that there was as big of a problem with the stainless steel components in the plant.

Suggest that you contact your ODCB supplier and ask questions about his production process and storage scheme.
