corrosion in boiler 3

From Guatemala, I have a heavy crude API 14, with 7% sulphur. I want to use in boiler to generate steam. What can I do to minimize the corrosion effect?

This is a difficult question, and is no small task. If I were you, I would put together a Request for Proposal (RFP) to burn an alternative fuel and send it out various boiler manufacturers and the boiler OEM. They would have the experience to provide recommendations for your to review – fuel delivery, emissions, steaming capacity, etc. I have some idea's based on our experience with B&W oil-fired power boilers. However, your source of information needs to be obtained thru the (or a ) boiler OEM.

Loaded question.

In higher temperature areas you should not have much of a problem. In lower temp areas such as cold end of air pre-heater, ductwork after aph, and stack you may have significant corrosion and may have to put in some stainless where carbon was good before.

Another possiblity would be to "dumb-down" your air preheater so that it is less efficient and thereby increase the temperature at the backend of the plant and avoid some corrosion.

I agree with met. talk to OEM or just run some short term tests and then shut down and inspect to see if damage is occuring.

With your boiler combustible quality, boiler water tubes and economizer tubes in points of dew point formation will suffer a lot!

To minimize corrosion by dew point, and boiler emissions you have to add some kind of fuel additives try to get some expertise on that, through Baker Petrolite, Nalco Ondeo, Dow Chemicals or others, maybe they will help you.
