does anyone have experience in the corrosion of aluminium parapet posts

i have the situation where a post exploded upom drilling a hole into it

i believe that salt via salt laden water from the road was sucked into the interior of the post through a pressed joint in a temperature cycle leading to areaction with the aluminium producing hydrogen gas

a milky fluid is found in the base of the post presumably as a residue of the reaction

i am not a chemist and i need to understand this in simple language

i am about to test all components to prove this and would appreciate any help

I have no direct experience with aluminium parapet posts. It seems you are progressing in an appropriate manner.

The milky fluid likely contains aluminium hydroxide, a typical corrosion product when water is plentiful.
