corrosion rates of commmon fastener coatings

Hi, user SJones suggested I post my query here instead of the corrosion forum where I had previously put it.

I am looking for corrosion rates and/or the life expectancy various coatings on low carbon and stainless steels. I would ideally like data for sea water and soil, and have rates based on thickness of the coating. Specifically the coatings I'm interested in are: ASTM B633, F1136, B695, B696, A153, A123, F2329, B766. These are Zinc and Cadmium coatings, hot dip or mechanically deposited on iron and steel.

I am very aware that corrosion rates don't accurately predict performance and very knowledgeable about all the issues that affect corrosion performance, but pointing me to any published numbers for seawater or soil to give a general indication would be appreciated.

You previously posted it in the COMPOSITE ENGINEERING forum! Your question is still troublesome for two reasons:

1. You really should be trying to avoid cadmium on health and environment grounds

2. If your fasteners are in seawater or soil, are they on a steel structure that is receiving cathodic protection?

Ah! My apologies! I seem to have the worst troubles in posting online.

To answer your questions

1. Yes, I do avoid Cadmium, however customers still request it at times so having some data would be handy

2. Fasteners would not be with CP.
