We are testing metal coatings applied to mild steel for marine petroleum well oil tool applications.
We are having some success in seawater using Al-magnesium base with certain Hastelloy
mid stack and chromium top layer , all in specific proportions .
They are applied using our patented ion plating process and are very thin ( < 25K Ang. ) .
The goal is to protect mild steel against sea water , < 5% HCl and H2S in petroleum wells .
Any suggestions for a metal that will maintain NaCl resistance and also protect against HCl with our current stack of Al/magnesium, Hastelloy , chromium ?
We know we can use Pd/Ag but it seems to reduce salt ( NaCl ) resistance .
Some alloys can be evaporated and still maintain some properties but it is surprising which ones work and don't .
Any help is appreciated.
