Hey Folks,
I have a question of how to simulate a bolt/screw when performing a frequency analysis in SolidWorks Simulation. The problem is that I have compression on a can but there are 4 screws that also come into play but have a gap between the plate they hold down and the threaded plate the screws attach to. I have tried several of the connectors but have run into various problems. Does anyone know how to take into consideration a fastener using the available contact conditions in a frequency analysis where there is a gap? Thanks. I attached a pic of a section to see what I'm talking about.

Hello TVill,

How can I see your attached picture?

Thanks TVill,

Just a few questions:

1) Are you using bolt connectors or did you actually model a screw?

2) What problems did you run into? Did you get any error messages?

take care,

Frequency analysis is almost meaningless when a contact/clearance model is involved. To get a frequency ouput you need to apply a time series input to the model, record the time series output, and then FFT it.

I'm surprised a non linear solver lets you run a frequency analysis to be honest.
