I'm working on an Asset Management task where I need to price the replacement cost of different pieces of equipment for a municipality, specifically their water/wastewater treatment facilities. I have been using USA blue book to get individual prices and plotting their relationship to certain qualities (like how the price of a pump is related to the Horsepower). However, the books I have (RSMeans, USA Blue Book) don't always cover the equipment I need.

My boss did send me two sample websites that give equations other people have determined ( and
Does anyone know of websites similar to the ones listed above? Any websites that give equations of cost estimating based on one or two pieces of information about an object? Again, I'm focused on water/wastewater treatment facility equipment & parts.

Perry's Chemical Engineering Handbook had some guides to estimating. From memory there were formulas for updating previous years estimates.

Working as a cost planner I always had to get prices from suppliers to get some accuracy into an estimate. If you can give an undertaking to the supplier that they will be given an opportunity to quote on future work generally they are very helpful. Try and get to their marketing person not just a sales person.

In Australia we have publications such as Cordells that provide labour and materials costs. I believe they have software although it may be cloud based.

A simple goggle search for cost estimating software USA infrastructure brought up a plethora of packages. Why not get a licence to check one out ?

Check public bids for water treatment, wastewater treatment and DOT's I wouldn't trust a website for that type of info. Go to all the suppliers within 50 miles. The web is only as good as the people that put stuff on it. Real info is much better. Equipment and parts are nice but how much does it cost to install?
