Cost Estimating Software? 1

Are any of you using any kind of Cost Estimating software, either tied into SolidWorks or tied into some sort of PLM system, to estimate the cost of the products you manufacture? My company is currently looking for something more robust than the Excel spreadsheets we're using now. The idea is that much of the information would be populated in the SolidWorks files (via custom file properties)--finishing operations, sizes, drilling, etc.--and that would be linked to this new software. The link could be direct, or indirect (thru the PLM system). This cost estimating software would then look at all of the operations required to make the part, apply costs, labor and quantities, and spit out an estimated cost to make the part.

So, is anybody familiar with something that might work? Note--bonus points if this estimating software is part of a larger PLM system. We also intend on building and using a BOM outside of SolidWorks--a BOM that everybody has access to, & much earlier in the process. The estimating software is a small but important part of this.

Thank you!

Have you looked at writing statements in your BOM? SW05 gives you the ability to use a SUM function in your BOM. So you can add Functions to your BOM's. It's in the help and in the What's new.

Just an idea!
