I am tasked at work (oil and gas exploration company) to do a payback analysis of using our produced gas to generate electricity and either use it or sell it to the grid. One area I am very fuzzy about is the cost of interconnection to the power grid and what factors we would have to consider. I assume it would be important to know the distance we are from substations, what capacity the outgoing lines nearby are, and what voltage and power would be producing. But I don't know how to put a cost number on these.
If anyone can point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Of course we can have it estimated by a professional but that is quite expensive and right now this is a very general research topic that I am just trying to get some ballpark numbers on.
