Hello everybody:

I am interested in calculating the cost of steam generation in a waste heat recovery boiler. The source of the heat is the exhaust gas of medium speed Diesel engines.

Technical papers, comments, web sites supplied by you, will be useful.

Thanks

I am not a great expert on matters financial/economic but lets start the ball rolling. There are simple ways and complicated ways of doing this calculation; one complicated way would be to calculate the net present value of costs over the life of the plant but lets start with a simple way so the principles will be clear.

If I were faced with this problem I would maked such calculations based on marginal costs. This means that only costs associated with generating steam would be considered.

Basic data is required like the capital cost of all the equipment needed to generate together with the inerest rate to be used.

Then O&M costs such as labour, chemicals and increased insurance costs. If the installation of the WHB changes the performance of the engine giving increased fuel consumption then this should be determined.

You will also need to decide how much steam you will generate in a year.

I will get back when I have checked my notes
