Hi colleagues, once again, I will require your advices on this fórum. On a new 15 000 m3 virgin napphta tank, the last plate (12mts x 2.5mts x 9.5mm) to be installed in one of the Shell courses, length was short by 15 mm. The contractor installed an adjustment plate of 900 mm long x 2.5 mts high and about 600mm off from the vertical joint on the next course up. My question is, if there is any restriction about the lenght (900 mm) between these 2 vertical joints on the same course, any mínimum distance in between? 5.6.1.2. only states mínimum requirements for the width (height) of the plate. I told the contractor to get a 1/3 of the 12mts length plate and center it with the vertical Weld above, just like if it was an acces door, but they are stuck to the 650 standard and wont be willing to do it. It looks ugly, but are they allowed by 650 to use that size of adjustment plate? I was not able to find anything in the standard.
Any info will be appreciated
Best regards

This looks 100% legal to me, complies with the standard and should be allowed as long as all other items in the standard are complied with such as weld spacing, NDE, dimensional tolerances, etc. As the owner you can require anything in excess of the standard, just be willing to pay for it.
