Hi guys, I have a question, the chapter 20 of ACI 318 says that you need to provide an 3inch cover for
concrete elements that are going to be against soil, like foundations, but this also should apply to the part of columns
and pedestal that its below surface level?

Three inches of cover applies for concrete cast directly against soil. I would expect pedestals and columns (including the part below ground) to be formed. In that case, clear cover requirement is 2" for #6 bars, or larger, and 1 1/2" for #5 bars, or smaller.

...and I use less, if there is a layer of PEVB between the soil and the concrete (assuming things are reasonably flat).

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?
